  • Woes Of The Iraqi Dinar

The Iraqi government took the world by surprise when it announced its intention to revaluate the Iraqi dinar. So many news watchers had actually been expecting some kind of reformation in the system of things n the Iraqi nation. The Iraqi dinar had been experiencing some very difficult time due to certain economic problems that the Iraqi nation had faced over the years. Because of this, the Iraqi dinar became greatly devalued that you can only succeed in purchasing the Iraqi dinar at the rate of 1200 Iraqi dinar (IQD) for just one dollar. This is not so helpful for the Iraqi economy at all.

When the news of the revaluation exercise came to the fore, every Iraqi and every other individual that have some interest in the country thought that the solution to the decadence in the Iraqi economy is finally on its way to being solved.

The revaluation and the redenomination that are promised by the government of Iraq will go a long way in helping to put some smiles on the faces of the Iraqi populace. The redenomination will increase the purchasing power of the Iraqi dinar and this will really be very helpful in rebuilding the economy of Iraq as a nation.

The standard of living of the Iraqi populace is so low since the period when the war started ravaging the country. There was almost nothing to live upon. The people are scarcely able to scratch a living from the patched ground to be able to make a living. So many commodities were rarely available and even if they are available there is no money to get them. Due to this situation, several simple household needs couldn’t be accessed by Iraqis and this was having very negative effect on the health of all and sundry in Iraq.

The reduction in the standard of living was made worse by the increase in the cost of living. The commodities that are essential for daily lives became very expensive because they are not easily available. It was now like the commodities are for only the highest bidder. This of course had a very negative impact on the economy of the country to the extent that several Iraqis couldn’t afford these things because of the high price tags placed on them.

This was not helped at all by the sanction placed on Iraq by the United Nations. The main cause of the woes of Iraq and the Iraqi dinar is actually the sanction. This sanction prevented Iraq from doing business with most countries of the world. Several commodities that could have been imported couldn’t be imported and because of this, Iraqis couldn’t really make anything useful out of their lives.

It was actually the accumulation of all these challenges that led to the fall in the value of the Iraqi dinar and its present unacceptable status among other currencies of the world. But with the latest effort being made by the Iraqi government to revaluate the Iraqi dinar, there is a very good chance of the Iraqi dinar being able to bounce back to life.
