  • The Security Features of the Iraqi Dinar

    The Iraqi Dinar which was introduced in 2003 has undergo series of protection especially from scams and counterfeiting. The new notes are being printed by De La Rue Corporation and the Dinar remains one of the most protect currency notes in the world today.

    The counterfeiting measures used in the production and design of the new Dinar currency notes have made if very difficult to reproduce . Some of the new security features that come with the new Dinar notes include; Imbedded ultra-violet marking, metallic ink, water mark, raised ink writing, serial numbers, water mark, special currency paper, security thread, colour changing symbol and several others. The water mark security feature of the Dinar is the image which is embedded in the currency paper, you will have to focus an incident light at the back of the note for you to view this image clearly.

     

    The metallic ink security feature used in the design of Iraqi Dinar notes are shiny silver which often come with shapes of wings and that of leaves. You will feel a slight thickness of the metallic ink when you run your fingers over it. The security thread is another security feature on the Iraqi Dinar note which is easily visible when placed incidentally a light source. It is visible on the surface of the note and then it gets imbedded in the paper of the note. The strip of the note come with a shiny silver and faint writing{ security thread}. The colour-changing symbol especially on the 25,000 Dinar currency note resembles a circular star shape with an 8-pointed star .

     

    The colour changing symbol changes from purple to dark green, these colours appear especially when the note is tilted backward and forth. The imbedded ultra-violet marking is a bright is a bright yellow-green colour marking which is only visible when held under an ultra-violet light, the length of the marking is about 1 inch and ¾ an inch across the note. Dinar currencies come with raised ink writing, The ink writing is raised at the center of the note especially at the Arabic inscription side. Running your fingers across the ink is one sure way to detect it. The special currency paper is another feature on the Dinar note , this is a special paper which is used in printing currency notes and its only similar to those used in many European countries.

     

    The paper is highly durable enough to contain all other security features available on the note. This feature can be used in detecting counterfeiting very fast. Each Iraqi Dinar note has its own serial number. These serial numbers are different from Arabic symbols found on the notes, they often look similar in nature but a closer examination will reveal difference especially in the upper horizontal region of the Arabic symbol. All the security measures put in place for a safe and secured Iraqi Dinar currency have been subjected to several tests which certify that they are effective in combating counterfeiting.
