  • Iraqi Government Formation-Why the Foreign Interest?

The rate at which several foreign countries are having interest in the Iraqi nation and how the Iraqi dinar gets revaluated is one thing that is becoming alarming. The interest seems to be increasing by the day and it is tending to continue at this fast rate within the next days to come. It is even as if these foreign nations are more concerned about how things move in Iraq than the Iraqis themselves.

There had been several calls on the Iraqi government and the Iraqi government and the various political parties in Iraq to quicken the process of forming a new government. The call seems to be mounting day by day to the extent that the pressure being received by the Iraqi government concerning the formation of the new government is more from these foreign bodies than what is received from Iraqis at home.

The other day, the United States government made a call on Iraq to quickly get things on the move by forming the national government on time. This call on Iraq by the United States was made through the two governmental officials from the United States and the intention of the call according to these United States officials was to enable the quick signing of some kind of security pact between the United States and Iraq so as to foster some kind of defense agreement. The pact is meant to bring some kind of agreement between the two countries in such a way that the two will become parleys. One begins to wonder if the United States is not only interested in fostering its own personal interest.

The call for the formation a joint national government was originally the idea of the United Nations. After the march 7 elections for the post of prime minister, which ended up inconclusively, the United Nations made a call for Iraq to bring about some kind of synergy among all the political parties that participated in the prime minister election. The United Nations said the reason for this suggestion was in an attempt to foster more unity in Iraq and douse tension in the already heated Iraqi polity. It is however left to conjecture what the true intention of the United Nations really is.

It will be noted that the United Nations parley; United States had earlier called for the present prime minster to continue on second term. This is rather something that can be referred to as being out of place considering the fact that Mr. al-Maliki, who is the present Iraqi prime minister, never even won the March 7 prime minister elections.

One of the most interesting foreign interests in the Iraqi nation is the one that came from Kuwait. It is surprising, considering the fact that the two counties were at war some years earlier. Though, Iraq owes Kuwait some amount of money. It still becomes rather baffling to imagine why Kuwait is willing to bring some reduction to the amount of money that Iraq owes it. As events unfold, the real intentions of these countries will soon come to the fore.
